Her first book, African American Literacies, concerns teaching writing and literacy to African American college students (and by extension younger students) from African-American perspectives. She is working on a second book-length project, Hip Hop Literacies, that explores counter cultural practices of the Hip Hop generation as an extension of traditional Black folk cultures.
