Himley Receives Senate Diversity Award

Margaret Himley, Director of Undergraduate Studies in The Writing Program has been named a recipient of the Third Annual Diversity Recognition Award from the Syracuse University Senate Diversity Committee. The award is given in recognition of an individual or group of the University community who has worked to improve interaction, cooperation, understanding and/or furtherance of dialogue among and between diverse groups on campus.

Carol Lipson, Writing Program Director, cited Himley’s leadership of the Writing Progam’s diversity initiative, her leadership in designing the LGBT minor and her contributions in co-leading the Senate LGBT Committee. Said Lipson, “Margaret’s commitment to promoting understanding and cooperation across lines of difference has simply been extraordinary. Few faculty at SU have done as much to further substantive attention to issues of diversity as has Margaret Himley.”

The award was presented at the University Senate meeting in April.
