WP Welcomes New Director of Undergraduate Studies Tony Scott

Associate Professor Tony Scott comes to the Writing Program from the University of North Carolina Charlotte where he was the Director of Rhetoric and Writing Program and Associate Professor of English. He completed his Ph.D. work in Rhetoric and Composition at the University of Louisville. His dissertation examined how a large-scale portfolio assessment shaped everyday pedagogy and students’ writing in the public school system in Kentucky. His research examines how political economics shape teaching, writing education, and academic administration and policy through such mechanisms as assessment, curricula, textbooks, and the terms of labor of teachers and students.  His co-edited collection, Tenured Bosses and Disposable Teachers: Literacy Work in the Managed University, was published by Southern Illinois UP in 2004, and his monograph, Dangerous Writing: Understanding the Political Economy of Composition, was published by Utah State UP in 2009. His interests include hiking, cycling, and shockingly, writing.   He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Susan Furtney, and their daughter, Flavia.
