| The Writing Program is delighted
to announce that Karen Oakes is the first recipient
of the Professional Writing Instructor Excellence in Teaching Award. The Selection Committee
unanimously agreed that Karen's teaching materials represented exemplary
interpretations of the lower-division curriculum. Her materials
for working with service-learning classes identify her as a program
leader in this area.
Undergraduate Director, Margaret Himley describes
Karen's submitted teaching materials: "Terrific syllabi and
assignments, a real sense of
how to put the learning goals to work—along with service learning
. . . . they are quite inspiring."
There will be a formal presentation of the award during the Fall
Teaching Conference on Thursday, August 24th. Karen's WRT 105 and 209 materials
are available below (MS Word format):
Writing Program Director, Carol Lipson, would also like to thank
all the PWIs who applied for the award and encourages them to consider
applying again in 2008. Thanks also go to the Selection Committee
who read all the materials: Margaret Himley, Betsy Hogan, David
Kim, Faith Plvan, Eileen Schell, and Nancy Wright. . |
