    About The Writing Center

The Syracuse University Writing Center exists as a resource available for all who are interested in developing writing skills across the curriculum. For students it is a place where they can improve their writing, regardless of their level of development, by working with consultants in individual or group sessions. For faculty it is a resource which enables them to supplement their own classroom writing instruction through student referral, requests for in-class workshops and presentations led by consultants, and dialogue with staff members about writing pedagogy.

The Writing Center is staffed by professional, graduate, and peer writing consultants. Professional writing consultants are experienced writing studio instructors who spend time outside of their writing classes working with clients on their writing and with instructors on activities related to writing and studio practices. Graduate writing consultants are teaching assistants who, like the professional writing consultants, are available to work with both students and faculty on writing issues. Peer writing consultants are undergraduates who are learning how to work with other students individually and in groups on their writing projects through WRT 331 and WRT 430, two peer consultant practicum courses offered by the Writing Program. To make an appointment, log on to tutortrac.syr.edu using your SU NetID (the first part of your email address) and the first nine digits of your SU ID# (without hyphens).

For more information about using the Writing Program's consulting services, check out the Consulting Policies page.

The Center, which is located in HBC 101 (phone: 443-5289), is open from 9 AM - 9 PM Monday through Thursday and 9 AM - 5 PM on Friday.
