Writing Center Policies
Writing Consultants are here to help students become stronger, more accomplished writers. In order to do this more effectively, and to serve the whole student population, we have designed the following policies. Please take a minute to review them before making an appointment to see a consultant.
- Please sign up for an appointment in advance. We cannot guarantee that students
dropping in will see a consultant immediately, especially as the semester
progresses.
- Appointments are in 25 and 50-minute segments, starting on the hour and
half hour.
- Students are resticted to a total of 2 50-minute sessions per week.
- Out of courtesy to the consultants and other students, please show up for
all appointments you make. Call 443-5289 during business hours if you need
to cancel. Missing 3 appointments will result in the loss of writing center
privileges for the semester.
- Students arriving more than fifteen minutes late for an appointment may
find that their appointment has been cancelled. They will have to reschedule
and will lose writing center privileges for the semester if they do so on
a consistent basis.
- Please sign in with the receptionist before every appointment; tracking
Writing Center use is vital so that we can continue to be a resource for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance from a consultant or the receptionist
if you need it.
- Please bring with you everything that you may need to help the consultant
assist you. Bring a copy of your assignment sheet, texts, class notes, and
any prewriting or drafts that you have made.
- You may make comments, complaints, suggestions, etc. to the Writing Center
at writingcenter@listserv.syr.edu.
Tell us what you think.
- Please remember that Writing Consultants can teach you to copyedit and proofread
your work, but they will not copyedit or proofread for you.
